01 — About the town

A town built
for readers.

Our story since 1912

PT Prose Town began as a paper mill & printers colony on the Rose River. Today it is a living library.

PT Prose Town is not a museum — 4,800 people live here, write here, bind books, roast coffee, restore houses and leave poems in shop windows. The town council protects independent storefronts: no chains on Main Street, only makers, booksellers and bakers.

We run on three rituals: morning pages at the Riverside Library, midday print-shop hum on Ink Alley, and evening readings on Chestnut Porches. Visitors come for a weekend and stay for a residency. Writers come for solitude and find community.

Our mission for 2025–2026: keep housing for artists affordable, digitize 40,000 pages of town archive, plant 1,000 riverside willows and keep every child within 5 minutes of a free bookshelf.
